Fence Styles That Are Defining 2026 Backyards

Fences used to be an afterthought. In 2026 they're a feature. Here are the four styles we've installed most this season and who each one suits.
1. Horizontal cedar
Wide cedar boards run horizontally on hidden steel posts. Clean, modern, and the cedar weathers beautifully. Best for newer homes and any backyard going for a contemporary look.
2. Black aluminum
Powder-coated aluminum picket — looks like wrought iron, zero maintenance, never rusts. Great for pool enclosures (meets code) and front yards where you want definition without blocking the view.
3. Mixed material panels
Cedar frames with black aluminum or composite infill. Gives privacy down low and openness up top. Our most-requested style for entertaining yards.
4. Full-height privacy with lattice cap
The classic, but updated: 6 feet of tight board-on-board with a 12-inch lattice top. Maximum privacy without feeling like a wall.
